Peacock, India’s National Bird, Could Be Termed Vermin In Goa
The national bird of India Peacock will be termed a vermin and collected in Goa. • They cause brutal damage to crops like monkey and wild boars and therefore declared Vermin.
•Peacock is a protected species under the Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 .
•The step is taken after compiling the record of the complaints received from farmers of crop destruction by these animals.
‘Exercise IBSAMAR’ between India, SA, Brazil begins
“ IBSAMAR ” is a joint naval exercise between India, Brazil and South Africa , this will be the fifth edition of the Harbor Phase of the Exercise to commence from Goa Coast. This is done in two phases namely Harbor phase and Sea Phase.
AIM: To increase the interoperability among three navies as well as common understanding maritime security between the navies.
•This is the first time the Exercise is held in India all the previous editions of the joint Exercise hosted in South Africa initiated in 2006.
•The scope of IBSAMAR-V includes range professional interactions during harbor phase and diverse range operational activities during Sea Phase.
Rare Falcated Duck sighted in Goa
Birders in Goa sighted rare Falcated Duck in Goa which will add the verity in Goa’s Bird list. • Earlier the Bird was sighted twice in South India, They were a regular winter migrant to
northern states of India.
•Falcated Ducks breeds in Eastern Asia, Russia and north china in summers and usual migrants to India and rarely spotted in Southern part of the country.

Feni now classified as “Heritage spirit of Goa.”
Government of Goa has declared Feni , a form of spirit as the heritage spirit of the state. Feni, was the first liquor product in the country which got Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2000.
•It finds its uses in various cultural traditions, cuisines as well as it is famed for its medicinal use. So it should not have been categorized as country liquor and it is presently defined under the Goa Excise Duty Act, 1964.
India to host 8th BRICS Summit, 2016
The external affairs ministry has notified that India will host the 8th BRICS Summit from 15 October to 16 October 2016 in Goa.

•Chairmanship – India assumed chairmanship of BRICS from Russia on 15 February
2016 and it will last till 31 December 2016.

Goa State Budget Presented for 2016-17
Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar who also holds the finance ministry presented a 158 crore rupees revenue surplus budget in the State assembly. The total size of the budget for 2016- 17 is 14694 crore rupees .

•The budget figure of 14694 crores is 9% higher compared to the previous year
• The State achieved highest per capita income of 257490 rupees in the country during 2015-16.
•The State GDP achieved 10 percent growth rate with a GSDP of 60893 crore rupees. • The fiscal deficit was kept at 2.4 percent , well below the limit of 3 percent
Important schemes & announcements
•VAT on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF ) was increased to 18 percent from 5 percent & VAT on petrol was increased to 22 percent from 15 percent
•VAT as well as tax on entry of goods in respect of regasified liquefied natural gas used by the industry was increased from the existing 20 percent to 30 percent
•Coconut trees will now be brought under the agriculture department with a provision for mandatory permission for cutting any coconut A full-fledged Coconut Development Board would be put in place headed by Coconut Farmer or an expert. • The government also announced the enhancement of support price for Coconut increased from 8 rupees to 10 rupees per coconut
•Goa Staff Selection Commission will be constituted for selection of candidates for appointments to the subordinate services. The state government will increase the age limit for government job aspirants from 40 to 45 years
•Two Offices of Deputy Collector will be established at Sattari and Sanguem
•Single window system will be created by integrating all services related to land matters. Digital Locker Integration will be created in line with Digital India Initiative of the Union Government
•IFFI-Secretariat will be developed on Public Private Partnership (PPP ) basis with a token provision of amount of 1 crore rupees.
• With a seed capital funding of up to 50 Lakh rupees for start-up , the government will target 100 such start ups and invest through Investment Promotion Board (IPB ). • The luxury tax on hotel stay is reduced from 60 percent to 25 percent during off season between June and September.
